ABOUT THIS COURSE
WHAT THE COURSE COVERS
Searching can include bags, lockers, belongings and the person themselves, but it is often avoided because staff lack confidence about their powers, rights and responsibilities. This one day course provides the knowledge and skills to search young people lawfully, professionally and with dignity, including correct use of handheld metal detectors.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
• Conduct searches respectfully, in line with school policy and legal standards
• De-escalate conflict through strategic communication
• Contribute to a culture of safety in your setting
• Build relationships through empathy and understanding
• Develop action plans for specific search and de-escalation situations
• Document searches and finds appropriately
COURSE DETAILS
Everything you need to know before you book. Most of our work is bespoke, so timings and content can be adapted to your setting.
• Duration: 1 day (usually 09:30 to 16:30, adaptable to suit you)
• Number of attendees: up to 16
• Course type: in person (annual refresher recommended)
• Assessment: practical demonstration and a short test
• Certification: certificate in Searching Young People Safely
• After the course: course materials, search forms and log templates, finds and evidence recording, and ongoing advice
